The HP 14S is one of the more favorable laptops - the test center cost 599 euros. Thanks to new Ryzen 5500UCPU, the Ultrabook works properly and has a long battery life. Too bad that the display is not convinced in all points. Nevertheless, the HP 14S brings the price-performance victory in the comparison test.
New test procedure
The test procedure is new - computer picture has updated it completely. Because: higher pace, better displays, new features - the manufacturers are constantly developing new, better notebooks. Computer image therefore adjusts the test procedure regularly. So too. Among other things, the following test points are new:
Tempo: From now on, the test laboratory measures the work pace with new, even more complex testing programs. The speeds in office work, Internet tasks, photo, video and 3D editors - including the benchmark test PC Mark 10. Image quality: Computer picture measures and evaluates the image quality of the displays as well as with monitors. Contrast, brightness, color fidelity remain important checkpoints, moreover, the testers determine the sRGB and DCI-P3 color space cover - important for color-related image editing.
Connections: USB 4, Thunderbolt 4 - these are only two of the new connection standards. However, the editors not only rates whether they are available, but also their quality. LTE, 5G: More and more notebooks are equipped with LTE, 5G or the upcoming WLAN standard Wi-Fi 6e - these transmission standards also flow into the evaluation. Access locks: Fingerprint sensor, face detection, venos scanner - even the access barriers use more and more sophisticated techniques that computer image is now recorded and evaluated separately.
Why so expensive?
Just two years ago, there were notebooks in the performance class of the models in this test already around 600 euros. That the test candidates are so expensive, has a simple reason: processors, graphics chips and memory are currently in short supply. This is also due to the demand for PCs and notebooks, which is clamped at the top during the Corona pandemic. Price increases from 200 to 300 euros are not a rarity.
All sizes, all variants
Nevertheless, with the exception of gaming notebooks, there is nothing in this price range what it does not exist - and computer image has tested it: all sizes: from the compact 13-inch notebook to the big 17-incher as a replacement for a desk PC is everything. The Lenovo Yoga Slim Carbon 7 is compact, with 975 grams extremely light and great processed. It also works flink without coming to sweating.
