Sprinter king Mark Cavendish won the third stage of the Giro d'Italia in his special discipline. The 36-year-old Brit from Team Quick-Step triumphed from Kaposvar to Balatonfüred in the mass sprint after 201 km. It was Cavendish's 16th day victory on the tour of Italy and the first one since 2013 - in the following years the record stage winner of the Tour de France had always left the Giro.

The Dutch Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Fenix) reached the goal at the same time and successfully defended his overall lead. The best German at the third stage was the Bocholter Phil Bauhaus from Team Bahrain Victorious in tenth. Rick Zabel (Unna/Israel Prime Minister Tech), son of the German Sprinter legend Erik Zabel, conquered the blue jersey of the best mountaineer with five points.
The last stage of the three-day breakdown to Hungary was characterized by the three Italian outliers Mattia Bais and Filippo Tagliani (both drone Hopper-Androni Giocattoli) and Samuele Rivi (Eolo Kommeta), which were swallowed off the main field a good 30 km before the finish. Then the teams of the top sprinters brought themselves into position for the mass sprint along the bank lake bank.
On Saturday, Lennard Kämna convinced the first of two individual time trials of the tour. The 25-year-old from the Bora Hansgrohe team was a strong eighth at Yates' victory with 17 seconds behind. "It was a very good time trial, good for my self -confidence. It showed me that I had the power," said Kämna, who had already made aware of a courageous appearance on Friday at the first stage.
Again, Emanuel Buchmann, who had lost the chances of a top spot with a capital crash and had to leave the tour prematurely, had the chance of a top. The 30-year-old fell on Saturday in the middle of the time driving. "I slipped away from the front wheel," said the fourth fourth from 2019, "but I got back on the bike relatively quickly and don't feel that bad."
The transfer to Sicily is due for the Giro-Tross. On the fourth stage on Tuesday, the fight for the overall ranking is really serious for the first time when it comes to Etna. The Giro ends after 3410 km on May 29 in Verona.
